I couldn't believe it when I opened my inbox and saw that the editors of my favorite food publication had decided that out of all the great writing about family cooking out there, they liked mine. And me. My mom and husband (always my biggest fans) have been bugging me to announce it here, so I am. Proudly and humbly at the same time. My motivation has always been to connect with people, make meaning out of the ordinary, and elevate the power of eating together. This honor is like a shot of B12 to keep me writing, cooking, and sharing. And there would be no sharing without readers, so it all comes down to you. People like Emily, Priya, my mom and mother-in-law, Naomi, Jordan, Aimee, and Sue who were my first and most enthusiastic readers. And then faithful readers like Pam (who I've only met virtually) and Lynn, whose comments always make my day and remind me why I write. And Jenn, who has probably cooked every single thing I've posted about. Thank you.
So Yancey and I will be going to Vegas for a celebration. I've never been. I guess I should buy a new dress and start saving up my calorie points right now, because I plan to eat and drink like a Blogging Queen. I'm sure you will hear all about it whether you want to or not.
Other than opening exciting emails, here's a few things I've been up to:
Getting ready for a girls weekend on Lummi Island. I'm in charge of Friday dinner and I'll be making my favorite Cioppino. (Extra Zinfandel for the cook.)
Making a frittata for the teachers at Roosevelt Elementary.
Biscuits for Easter. Of course.
Lunch with Jordan at Tamarind Tree, which never disappoints. And having her in Seattle instead of Brooklyn seems too good to be true.
And a few meals at Ciao Thyme, which deserves its own post. It's hard to have lunch there and NOT discuss food the whole time. So if you need to take an emotional deep dive into something other than food, find a teriyaki joint.
